Practical Science and the Power of Neuroplasticity

I am fascinated by how ancient practices and modern science support and challenge eachother to expand our capacity for professional and personal developmentNew research affirms the impact regular yoga and meditation practice can have on our mental health and overall wellbeing.  We cannot always choose what happens to us, but we can always choose how we respond.  

Neuroscience shows us that we each have the capacity to rewire our brains through the power of choice!  They call it neuroplasticity – where we take advantage of the malleability of the brain and choose to actively strengthen neural pathways by practicing how we think, speak and behave mindfully.  Neuroplasticity is the science of practice makes perfect!  This coupled with ’embodied cognition’ – where we visualise an idea of the future and rehearse new scenarios that lead to us behaving differently and creating new results – aka raising our vibration – which can also be described as the science of fake it til you make it!  So really, the world is your oyster, it just depends what you decide to make true!  In the words of Henry Ford “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right”.

Suddenly this means anyone can fulfil their potential so long as they choose their thoughts and practice their habits mindfully. This opens up huge doorways for those who invest time and energy into their own personal development. With a growth mindset rather than a fixed one – we can transform the way we think, speak and behave in our lives to create amazing things.

But this is not just thinking positive for the sake of it – if that thought flies in the face of our core beliefs then that’s not transformation, that’s cognitive dissidence! It just masks the problem on the surface and backfires by highlighting our own deeper limiting beliefs – leading to mistrusting the process and feeling it’s all BS. No. Instead, transformation is in acknowledging these limiting beliefs and recognising them as hangovers from the past, so we can practice releasing them and stepping into a new way of being. There is a definite element of trusting the healing process, and moving through it, to let the pain go and transcend to the other side. This way we can literally grow our brains, bodies and conscious awareness intentionally to create our own destiny!

Essentially, that is what motivates me to get up in the morning.
